DNS Engineer

SUMMARY OF POSITION: The DNS Engineer is responsible for researching new technologies and solutions for forward-looking DNS design considerations as platforms evolve. Additionally, this role will assist with sustained support for the Production DNS infrastructure. This role is expected to collaborate with boundary partners in other organizations (Application Development, Production Development, IT Operations, Networking Engineering, Security and others) to provide guidance for best practice solutions. Lead project implementations and develop/maintain design documents.

  1. Assist in research and evaluation of new DNS features that will provide improved feature functionality and efficiencies to optimize the existing infrastructure.  This includes working with network and systems engineering teams to provide holistic solutions for future projects.
  2. Documentation of system designs, deployment procedures, and troubleshooting procedures.
  3. Enforcement of systems standards, policies and procedures in regards to hardware and operating system selection, configuration, and deployment.
  4. Assist in research and documentation of application best practices for performance, security, and stability.
  5. Capacity planning and hardware sizing.
  6. Planning and implementing disaster recovery and high availability for critical systems.
  7. Troubleshooting of application, operating system and hardware problems.
  8. Ability to communicate effectively with business counterparts.
  9. Assist in the development and implementation of server standards for all new servers.
  10. Ability to communicate effectively with business counterparts.
  11. Ability to perform with limited supervision.
  12. Ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
  1. 5+ years’ work experience supporting DNS Infrastructure in either an Operations or Engineering role
  2. Strong communication and documentation skills
  3. Must be Self-Motivated and Results Oriented
  4. Must be comfortable working in a team environment
  5. Minimum of 5 years Linux system administration or system architecture experience.
  6. Strong experience with building Linux based servers in a lab environment.
  7. Script development with bash or other scripting languages is a plus.
  8. Understanding of TCP/IP Networking including OSI Model and basic UNIX system level network troubleshooting skills is a must.
  9. Experience with Nominum DNS software would be a plus
  10. Familiarity with VMWare/VCloud, IPv6, advanced networking/security, and/or load balancing is a plus
  11. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering is a plus
